Theft, lies and videotape: the dos and don’ts of protecting your business from disloyal employees
You suspect that a senior employee may be about to join or launch a competing business. You think they may be using your confidential information and technology to develop a competing product and solicit your customers, and may be planning to take a key team of your employees with them. What can you do lawfully to confirm your suspicions? Can you check their email account, search their offices, tap their telephones, carry out surveillance on them or search their homes? Once you have your evidence, what legal steps can you then take to protect your business? Also, what can or should you do with the errant employees? Suspend, dismiss, or place
them on garden leave?
Such questions are not industry-specific and will be faced regularly by companies, particularly as the economy emerges from recession and the marketplace becomes more competitive. We are therefore re-running this popular interactive workshop which will consider these issues and explore what a company can do lawfully to protect its business interests.
